The Buro of Ideas, in collaboration with Avasti Design, have been designing and crafting reclaimed timber trophies since 2007. The reclaimed timber we use has been salvaged from various locations and sources – from Her Majesty's Theatre in Melbourne, derelict W-class trams, Port Phillip's Princes Pier – to Botany Bay Woolstore and timbers from every state and territory across Australia.
Each salvaged timber comes with rich history embedded within its grain - and acts as our silver and gold – the precious material that makes each award special. The timber used from Her Majesty's Theatre was 120-year-old oregon from a mechanism that raised and lowered the stage curtain. This wood had been in the presence of Dame Nellie Melba, Pavarotti and many more famous performers from all over the world. Recipients were able to take home a piece of this embodied story and piece of history.
